Mavs RESPOND to DVSAS

Department of Justice Grant
Mercy was awarded a 3 year grant by the department of justice. The ultimate objective of the Campus Program is to help the University create effective, comprehensive responses to domestic/dating violence, sexual assault and stalking (DVSAS) including prevention and intervention with collaboration from community partners. Thus, the MAVS RESPONSE (Response, Education, Sexual violence Prevention, Outreach in Service and Empowerment) Team was created including the community partners of the Dobbs Ferry Police Department (DFPD) and Westchester Medical Center鈥檚 Sexual Assault, Abuse and Victims Empowerment Program (SAAVE).
In accordance with grant requirements, Mercy must:
- Create a coordinated community response team to oversee all planning and implementation activities (this is the MAVS RESPONSE Team)
- Provide prevention programming, including bystander intervention to all students on DVSAS
- Provide access to 24-hour confidential victim services and advocacy
- Provide ongoing training to all campus security on how to effectively respond to DVSAS crimes
- Conduct ongoing training to all personnel in the campus disciplinary process
