Mercy College is pleased to announce that the Grace Family Foundation of Rye, New York has endowed a scholarship at the College to support San Miguel Academy of Newburgh students. The scholarship will aid Academy students and support their college journeys.
San Miguel Academy opened in 2006 as a tuition-free, faith-based independent middle school for boys from underserved families in Newburgh, New York, a city struggling with crime and poverty. “San Miguel is succeeding in its mission of economic opportunity through education,” said Father Mark Connell, Founder and Executive Director of San Miguel Academy. “Our partnership with Mercy is a wonderful extension of that objective.”
“We are delighted to welcome San Miguel Academy students into the Mercy family,” said Mercy College President Tim Hall. “We are grateful for the opportunity to continue Father Connell’s early intervention work to advance the lives of San Miguel Academy students, who have already accomplished so much.”
Mercy and San Miguel share the commitment of creating economic opportunity through comprehensive academic education starting at the earliest possible stage with both institutions offering significant individualized support in addition to traditional study courses. The Grace Family Foundation has long supported higher education, and their commitment to both San Miguel Academy and Mercy College has enabled many "at risk youth" to transform their lives through education. Mercy College is proud to be help them complete their journeys.
