Black chokeberry is a native shrub adaptable to a wide variety of soil. White, showy flowers appear in the spring, then the black berries start to appear in the summer. In the fall the berries mature and the leaves change to red, orange, and purple. The fruit are too bitter to eat raw but can be used for a variety of jams, syrups, and drinks.
