Five-Year BS/BA & MS Teacher Education Programs

Teacher in classroom with students

Overview

The Five-Year BS/BA & MS Programs are innovative academic programs that allow students who are interested in the teaching profession to earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years. Students earn a B.S. or B.A. in one of the following majors in four years and complete a fifth year leading to an M.S. in education and initial teacher certification:

Mathematics Adolescence Education, Grades 7-12
Biology Adolescence Education, Grades 7-12
Behavioral Science Early Childhood Education, Birth - Grade 2

A key feature of these programs is that students can take up to 15 graduate education credits during their junior and senior years, charged at the lower undergraduate tuition rate. These credits can be used toward satisfying both the bachelor鈥檚 as well as the master鈥檚 degree requirements. Combining undergraduate and graduate degree programs streamlines the teacher preparation program and enables students to achieve teacher certification on an accelerated basis, reducing the time and cost needed to earn a master鈥檚 degree. In addition, the multiple career options offer students the opportunity to acquire skills and credentials in several teaching specialization areas, thus increasing their employment potential in schools that need teachers to fill multiple and flexible roles.
